In Vienna Calling, German director Philipp Jedicke embarks on a journey into the subcultural heart of the Austrian capital, whose musical pulse beats through artists such as Bilderbuch, EsRap, Wanda and Voodoo Jürgens. He discovers a world of loving spitefulness and derision, full of bizarre stories and harsh contrasts. Accompanied by dazzling artists and quaint freaks, the “Piefke” soon has to realize that the city is even more unpredictable and mysterious than its casually hyped basic tone suggests.

"A Vienna film in a class of its own."

nmz - neue musikzeitung

"Philipp Jedicke's declaration of love for Vienna's underground culture lets its protagonists drift through day and night and the city, smoking, singing and making art. A little Disneyland, a little gateway to the Balkans - maybe it's just staging for German tourists, but it makes you want to drink an espresso in a Schmauswaberl."

stadtrevue Cologne

"Vienna is exciting without being exciting. Anyone who already knows that will feel right at home in this movie. Those who don't know it yet will be pleasantly surprised. And those who are generally interested in modern pop music will love "Vienna Calling" because it immerses them in the colorful, exciting music scene of an entire city."

Programmkino.de

"A wonderful city tour that takes you to unknown places and lets you rediscover familiar ones."

ORF

"Vienna Calling" has an eye and a big heart for the bizarre, the eccentric, the crooked. The documentary is a trip into one of Vienna's many subcultural heartlands."
