The Gerd-Ruge Scholarship was awarded for the 20th time in Cologne as part of the NRW Documentary Day. The 5th NRW Documentary Day devoted a packed program of talks and contributions to directors such as Milo Rau, David Bernet, Doris Metz, Luzia Schmid, Pia Hellenthal, Uli Gaulke, Robin Humboldt and Christiane Büchner, the producers Carl-Ludwig Rettinger, Ole Hellwig, Henriette Ahrens, Jan Krüger, Arne Birkenstock and Leopold Hoesch, as well as Christiane Hinz from WDR, Anina Zwettler from ARTE, Henning Tewes from TV Now and Gerrit Roth from Amazon. Arne Birkenstock talks about the changed framework conditions for documentary filmmakers* due to streamers and digitalization and lockdown, Milo Rau and Jan Krüger report on the creation and digital evaluation of the film THE NEW GOSPEL.
On the occasion of the 5th NRW Documentary Day, director and KHM professor Ulrike Franke (among others "Losers and Winner", "Göttliche Lage") and director and producer Arne Birkenstock (among others "Beltracchi - Die Kunst der Fälschung") also talked to Michael Dietz in a podcast about documentaries, documentary filmmaking, changes in the industry, the Lovemobil scandal and much more.
